You Used to Just Bookmark. Now AI Organizes With You.

It used to be simple: You found a great article, clicked “Save to Pocket,” and moved on with your day—knowing you’d read it later, offline, on your own time. For over a decade, I used Pocket in my teaching career. I saved readings for class, stored examples for professional development, and shared curated lists with my students to foster lifelong learning. It became more than just a read-later tool—it was a teaching companion.

But now, things are different. As Mozilla prepares to shut down Pocket on July 8, 2025, many of us are asking: What now? The truth is, we’re no longer limited to passive saving. With tools powered by AI, you can now do more than just read later—you can summarize, tag, archive, and even learn from what you save.

Here’s how the shift looks in real life: Instapaper keeps the minimalist reader happy and now offers 3 free months to Pocket users. Readwise does more than store—it connects highlights across your library and uses AI to help you recall and reflect. GoodLinks, for those of us who prefer privacy and a one-time fee, offers local storage and powerful offline features. Play transforms “watch later” into an organized YouTube dashboard. Raindrop.io and Anybox bring bookmarking into the AI age—with smart tagging, reminders, and even permanent archiving.

These tools don’t just replace Pocket—they reimagine what’s possible. So, while I’ll miss the familiar orange “save” button, I’m also excited. Because in the age of smart tools, we don’t just collect information—we collaborate with it. Pocket may be shutting down, but the spirit of learning, saving, and sharing lives on—with better tools, and smarter help. This isn’t the end. It’s a new way to read, teach, and grow—together.
