5 Ways Sharing Knowledge Builds Unshakeable Confidence (in Work and Life)
➊ Teach what you learn—immediately
One of the fastest ways to grow your confidence is to teach what you’re learning. You don’t need to be an expert. You just need to be one step ahead.
When you share ideas, you reinforce them—and build clarity in your own mind. As they say: “If you want to master something, teach it.”
Over the past 22 years, I’ve had the privilege of teaching thousands of students—first in Canada, and then for 16 years at Umm Al-Qura University in the heart of Makkah. I’ve worked with future engineers, doctors, and business leaders. And no matter the subject, one truth always stood out:
When a student took the time to explain a concept to someone else, something shifted. Their face lit up. Their understanding deepened. And most importantly, their confidence started to grow.
➋ Be a student for life
Confidence doesn’t come from knowing it all. It comes from being open to learn it all. Curiosity keeps you humble, engaged, and growing. And growth leads to confidence—because you know you’re better than yesterday.
Even with two decades of teaching under my belt, I’ve never stopped being a student. Every new topic I explore, every question I ask, and every mistake I learn from fuels the same belief I try to instill in others: stay curious, stay growing.
➌ Give without expecting
Sharing knowledge is an act of generosity. Don’t hoard what you know—give freely, and trust that it will come back in ways you don’t expect. The more you contribute, the more valuable (and confident) you’ll feel.
That’s the heart of The Mentor’s Compass, my platform and consulting project dedicated to helping teachers, leaders, change-makers, and content creators grow through intentional learning and purposeful sharing. We equip people with tools to teach, mentor, and lead—so their knowledge becomes someone else’s breakthrough.
➍ Build small circles of learning
Create moments to learn with others: in your team, in your family, in your community. Confidence grows when you realize you’re not alone on the journey. Start a book club. Host a coffee chat. Mentor someone. Ask questions. Invite growth.
Through The Mentor’s Compass, we help individuals and organizations create these spaces of growth and accountability.
➎ Stay grounded in purpose
When you see learning and teaching as a sacred responsibility, everything changes. It’s not about showing off what you know. It’s about lifting others—and being lifted in return.
Confidence rooted in service? That’s the kind that never wavers. My career has shown me that knowledge isn’t just power—it’s trust, duty, and service. And when you approach it that way, confidence stops being about ego and starts becoming about legacy.
